Level 1

You have learned to untangle and reshape the fabric of reality in harmony with your wishes and music. Your spells are part of your vast repertoire, magic that you can tune to different situations.

  • Cantrips. You know 2 cantrips of your choice from the bard spell list.

  • Known Spells. The Spells Known column of the bard spell slot table shows how many bard spells you know at any given level. Whenever you gain a level in this class, you may choose one of the spells you know, and replace it with any other bard spell. Each spell you learn can only be of a spell slot level you have.

  • Ritual Casting. You may cast any bard spell you have prepared as a ritual if that spell has the ritual tag.

  • Spellcasting Focus. You may use a musical instrument as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells.

  • Spellcasting Ability. Your spellcasting ability is CHA.

    • Spell Save DC. 8 + proficiency + CHA

    • Spell attack modifier. proficiency + CHA

You may use a bonus action on your turn to choose one creature, other than yourself, within 60ft. of you who can hear you. That creature gains one bardic inspiration die. Your bardic inspiration die is a d6. Within the next 10 minutes after using this trait, the creature may roll the die and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature may wait until after it rolls the d20 of a check before deciding to use the die, but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once the bardic inspiration die is rolled, it is lost. A creature may only have one bardic inspiration die at a time. You may use this trait a number of time equal to your CHA modifier, minimum of 1, every long rest.

Level 2

You may add half your proficiency bonus, rounded down, to any ability check you make that doesn't already include your proficiency bonus.

If you or any creature of your choice who can hear you regain hitpoints at the end of a short rest by spending one or more hit dice, you may use your music to revitalize them. They recover an extra 1d6 hitpoints.

If a creature has one of your bardic inspiration dice, and casts a spell that restores hitpoints or deals damage, the creature may choose to roll the bardic inspiration die and choose one target affected by the spell. They may add the number rolled as a bonus to the hitpoints regained, or the damage dealt. This consumes the inspiration as normal.

Level 3

Choose a subclass:

The College of Glamour is the home of bards who mastered their craft in the vibrant realm of the Feywild or under the tutelage of someone who dwelled there. Tutored by satyrs, eladrin, and other fey, these bards learn to use their magic to delight and captivate others.

The bards of this college are regarded with a mixture of awe and fear. Their performances are the stuff of legend. These bards are so eloquent that a speech or song that one of them performs can cause captors to release the bard unharmed and can lull a furious dragon into complacency. The same magic that allows them to quell beasts can also bend minds. Villainous bards of this college can leech off a community for weeks, abusing their magic to turn their hosts into thralls. Heroic bards of this college instead use this power to gladden the downtrodden and undermine oppressors.

Bards of the College of Valor are daring skalds whose tales keep alive the memory of the great heroes of the past, and thereby inspire a new generation of heroes. These bards gather in mead halls or around great bonfires to sing the deeds of the mighty, both past and present. They travel the land to witness great events firsthand and to ensure that the memory of those events doesn't pass from the world. With their songs, they inspire others to reach the same heights of accomplishment as the heroes of old.

Old tales speak of the dangers of whistling: the hollow, haunting pitches call to the spirits of the departed and invite them back to the world of the living. Bards of the College of Whistles take these stories and set them to their own warbling tunes, whistling forth their bardic magic and summoning spirits to aid in their travels. These bards wander even more than most of their fellows, drawn to traveling and gathering both stories and ghosts like patches in tattered clothing.
